History: Władysławowo located at the base of the Hel Peninsula.

Władysławowo would have a great chance to become the summer capital of Poland. The place is situated at the base of the Hel Peninsula. If somebody was looking for the name of the place, no book would reveal it. Until 1953 Władysławowo was referred to as Wielka Wieś. Before World War II the open air swimming baths called Hallerowo were built in the neighbourhood. The name was to commemorate general Jozef Haller whose espousals with the sea took place in February 1920. Between 1936 and 1938 a fishing port was built to the north of Władysławowo with reference to king Władysław IV’s 18th-century military port, located between Chałupy and Kuźnica. On 1st July, 1952 Wielka Wieś, Hallerowo and the settlement near the harbour were connected and formed the administrative unit called the Władysławowo commune. In 1963 the place was granted a town charter.

The town and its neighbourhood offer tourists many attractions. Numerous individuals associate Wladysławowo with the summer relaxation, namely with a 23 km sandy beach, the possibility to practise water sports, including windsurfing, fish (also from the fishing cutter on the sea), walk or cycle. The fishing port often hosts sailors who come to live here on the boards of their yachts.

However, it must be realised that other seasons are equally attractive. The colours of autumn astonish not only those who practise parachuting in order to see the town from a better perspective. Walking along the sea can guarantee not only beautiful views, but also the possibility to breath fresh air full of iodine. The lucky ones can find bits of Baltic amber.

When one reaches Władysławowo, it is worth visiting the following places:

  • The Fisherman’s House (now there is a town hall inside) with a viewpoint tower,
  • Hallerówka- a house-museum which belonged to general Jozef Haller,
  • St. Mary’s Assumption Church- an interesting combination of mixing a gothic chapel from the 1930s (at present it is a presbytery) with the contemporary architecture: the place where the concerts of organ music are held,
  • The Chłapowski Gorge-as some people believe, it is the most beautiful part of the Seaside Landscape Park where one can observe unique species of flowers,
  • The Lighthouse in Rozewie- one of the oldest and the biggest lighthouses in the area, situated in the northernmost place of the country, associated with Stefan Żeromski,
  • The Centre for Olympic Preparation- the sports and recreational centre, situated at the sea, which is available for tourists, Sports Stars’ Avenue- situated near The Centre for Olympic Preparation, has been patterned upon the Hollywood Film Stars’ Avenue.

  • It must be stressed that Władysławowo is located 34 km from Gdynia, which is a part of the Tricity and offers a possibility to see their attractions as well.
