PEAT POULTICES

Peat in Poland is used for therapeutic aims. The chemical composition of peat depends on the kind and conditions in which it has been produced. Water is the main component; however, one can also observe inorganic components, such as magnesium, iron, aluminium, sodium, potassium, silicon and other organic components, not fully decomposed vegetal components, such as wood-wool or cellulose. The products of the humification process: bitumins, humus acids and oestrogens, which are of value in gynaecological diseases treatment.

Indications for the peat application:
• joints degeneration diseases,
• states after limb injuries in the chronic period,
• chronic diseases of the digestive system,
• chronic diseases of the respiratory system,
• gynaecological diseases.


The influence of peat on the organism:
• increased cellural metabolism,
• local tissue hyperaemia,
• Inflammatory products removal from the organism,
• improvement in kidney action (increased urea secretion),
• influence on the action of the endocrine glands, for instance, on ovaries, indirect influence on the pituitary gland,
• analgesic action,
• smooth muscle relaxation.
